The Captain... almost complete..

First stretch of the barrier cloth/FR Calico - as the top fabric is leather I am trying to get this stage as tight and firm as possible.. the back is taking shape and i'll start the edge roll next..

The captain resumed....

The Naked Captain..

He is now finally ready to be glued and braced with brackets and made sturdy and strong again.. The vinyl was holding him together and the frame is quite battered, HOWEVER, all the more fun and satisfaction when the re-build starts and get his new leather outfit and looks the business!!...

THE CAPTAINS PROGRESS 1

THE CAPTAIN...

The Captain is a commission I am working on at the moment and what better way to keep the client up to date and following its progress.... I find stripping the pieces back fascinating and I know the owner of this piece is equally as intrigued at what lies beneath...
I forget the full history, but once I get it I will update the blog with its story..
I do know it came from a bank that was closing down and the chairs were being auctioned off?.. I was hoping it would be stashed with money or gold bars.. but unfortunately all I found was straw... So far anyway.....

Show Stopper...

This nursing chair was part of an installation that showed the progression of work through traditional upholstery..

Mirror Mirror...

Bernice will Kill me..

Here we are on the night.... after show, pre night of mayhem!... Saturday at the show wasn't quite as smiley.... but we held it together quite well...

BABY FIFI..

I got quite into my cushions... Here is BABY FIFI, she is filled with duck feathers and I have used both sides of this very soft leather hide, to give her some texture and extra sex appeal!!..

MILKY..

Not really a traditionally upholstered piece of furniture, but one of my favorites from the 'RAWHIDE' exhibition..  He has a cambric inner filled plump with duck feathers and his outer coat is cowhide/hair done in patchwork, just because I like to make my life difficult!!.. HE IS GORGEOUS!!...

STIG...

This little beauty is 'STIG'.. he is finished in a nice and simple ticking stripe and the loose cushion is filled with duck feathers and covered in 100% Linen scrim...

The flowers were created especially for our exhibition by 'VICTORIA' and she can be contacted at vickiyates@gmail.com - she is a complete WONDER!!..

CELIA chair in progress...

I think it is nice and also interesting to see what goes into a traditionally upholstered piece of furniture....

CELIA CHAIR..

This is CELIA, on display at the exhibition 'RAWHIDE'...

RAWHIDE..

SO the project that prompted this blog spot took place on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th February at the Troubadour, the space shown on an earlier blog... Such a great space, I would highly recommend it!!

I'm uploading pieces on display at the show... any enquiries - please don't hesitate to contact me..

ENJOY!!..

I have Ideas around this..

No Frames Needed..

This could be a good way to display your prints, without the cost of frames??..

Wall Hanging...

I am thinking I can cover some of the wall space with headboard style wall hangings?.. Keep your eyes peeled for fantastic, relevant fabric... If you spot any - buy up a good few meters...

Leading Lady of Upholstery...

So, this is the lady with all the press on upholstery..... I think there is still some room for me...

Photography Inspiration..

How beautiful are these?... photographer Desiree Dolron..... check out her website...

Ottoman...

Do you think this could fit into the theme?... and the Banjo.. deliverance and all that.....???

Troubadour Exhibition room..

The room is shaped in an L and these were taken from me standing in the centre of the room.. we have some space to fill!!... but its a cool place and the bar next door is perfect....

Lovely Leather.....

Look at all this amazing leather and skins.... The great thing about it, is that it is all from animals being used for their meat... so nothing is wasted... which does make me feel better... the flash on the camera is changing the colours... the colours are so beautiful!.. I am very excited about these....

Squab Prototype No:1

This is my first attempt at a traditional Squab cushion.. I can't seem to find any instructions in any of the books I have for this particular design... So I got some 10 oz Hessian, Chinese horse hair and some mattress twine... A little over filled and a few mental notes along the way and I think when I crack on with the Scrim and ticking stripe versions they will be top quality!!...

Photography ambitions...

When I finally get the hang of the camera my dad donated to me, I would like to take a leaf out of this guys book.. I really like his work...
His Girlfriend has this amazing blogspot and his pictures can be found through the link.... have a butchers...  http://sallyjanevintage.blogspot.com/

Exhibitionists...

These WILL be on display at the exhibition.... I think I will have to make a bucket load of these.. I want at least one!!.. LOVE THEM!!....

Smartest Artist....

I found this artist, but I have misplaced where I found her and what her name is... I will have to get back to you with the info....

Macha Jewelry should be stocked here......

www.malinlandaeus.com

Massive feather filled poof.... yet to be named!

This is quite a beast and of course can pretty much be made to measure.... the feathers get everywhere when stuffing it... but its worth it to get the shape and size you want... I plan to cover these in veg tan leather - its got an antique look and its what they call pull up as when you pull the leather it marks and creates a worn effect... it is LUSH!!......

HOW CUTE IS THIS...

This is the inner of a kidney shaped foot stool - the top has been prepared with springs I think and just needs padding and the outer sides padding and covering! I Love this and think I will do a few of these for the exhibition??....
